I don’t remember which of us in my minecrafting-friend-group-from-a-few-years-back originally came up with the idea of describing real-life tasks as “Minecraft goals,” but credit and deep appreciation goes to them!! <3 I’m pretty sure this silly analogy has dramatically influenced how I approach day-to-day life ever since, for the better. other than that I don’t have much commentary for this one at the moment, but Minecraft is great, do recommend :3

transcript:
I’m a former gifted kid (TM) who struggles with executive function — I find it much easier to spend all day scrolling social media than attempt to do things myself and risk failing at them
[Blobic lays in bed, watching a video on his laptop titled “TOP 10 MINECRAFT BUILDS,” and says aloud, “secondhand dopamine my beloved! surely this is all I need for a rich and fulfilling life”]
but I love playing Minecraft with my friends, and over the years I’ve learned how to invent personal in-game projects to entertain myself
[a blocky version of Blobic stands alone in a Minecraft world while friends chatter enthusiastically off-panel]
friend one: I’m going to fight the Ender Dragon!
friend two: I’m going to get electra!
Blobic, looking around somewhat aimlessly: I’m going to, um,,, find some potatoes?
gradually my projects are becoming more and more complex, and I’m finding myself increasingly willing to put actual research and effort into making them work
[Blobic sits at his computer, smiling and taking diligent notes in a paper notebook beside him, gears churning next to his head. as he writes, he thinks aloud: “let’s see, so to grow a giant mushroom I’ll want podzole, which apparently I can get by growing a spruce tree, so I’ll need to find a forest where I can get four spruce saplings–“]
and slowly but surely I’ve been learning how to transfer these new skills into real life
[Blobic stands outside in winter gear, arms akimbo and face determined, and announces, “my irl minecraft goal of the day: learn how to derust my bike!” the bike in question stands beside him, metal discolored and tires flat, emitting a small, sad skull emoji]
