30: a journey of a thousand flowers begins with a single seeding!

march 3rd, 2025

comic!! this is actually a reworking of the complex script and art I mentioned in last page’s commentary — the theme is the same, but this location and project are much easier to draw than the one I’d originally written about. mounds of dirt are well-depicted by squiggles :3

I’m actually really proud of how this page turned out! things like reducing the opacity of the background in the second panel are pretty easy to implement but really add a lot to the feel of the art in my opinion, and it’s fun and exciting to remember/discover and lean into more little hacks like that.

speaking of fun exciting things — wish us luck with our wildflower garden!!! it’s promptly become re-trashed, so it’s not great to look at right now, but I’m hoping the human litter is acting like the leaf litter and providing a bit of protection for any sprouting seedlings in the months to come. and very much best of luck to folks out there trying or considering similar projects! 😀

edit: march 10th author here! I’m having technical issues posting page 31 on the site tonight, so instead it’ll go up on Patreon as an unofficial page 30.5, and an official page 31 should be up on this site in the next week or two.

.

further edit: march 17th author here!!! I’m experimenting with switching to an every-other-Monday posting schedule for the next few months, with the intent of building up a page buffer so it’s no biggie when something unexpected comes up and I’m not able to finish that week’s page on time. on the off weeks, I’ll be posting little sneak peaks and silly doodles over on the Applesauce with Sprinkles Patreon (linked in the previous edit)! as such, there’s a bit of art up there today, and I’m aiming for the next full page to go up on March 24th ^u^ thanks as always for your patience!

transcript:

there’s a mound of bare dirt I see frequently that’s usually covered in trash
[image: the aforementioned mound of bare dirt, covered in trash]

and my partner and I have started working on turning it into a native wildflower garden
[Chris and Blobic stand, considering the mound! Chris is pointing at it and saying, “so if we seed here, and then I was thinking we can find a way to delineate it from the rest of the lawn so it’s less likely to get mowed over,” while Blobic thoughtfully “mhmm, mhmm”s]

we’re not sure if any of the seeds will actually grow, but right now just the process of working on it feels like we’re growing something
[Blobic and Chris smile and chatter with each other, surrounded by faint sparkles in the air. Blobic is holding a bag and tossing handfuls of small seeds from it across the mound, while Chris is carrying over a sizable log, potentially for delineation purposes]
